Cynthia Erivo, a British actress known for her role in 'Wicked,' attended the 97th annual Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Erivo, who has been cast to play Jesus in the Hollywood Bowl's production of 'Jesus Christ Superstar,' appeared at the event wearing a black dress with a gothic vampire neck collar and long nails.
Erivo explained her outfit choice to reporters by saying she was channeling Glinda, the good witch from 'Wizard of Oz.' The actress, alongside Ariana Grande, opened the awards show with a performance of "Defying Gravity."
Previously, in 2018, Erivo responded to comments made by then-President Trump about African countries. She stated on social media: “I hope all the Africans in this world call on their ancestors. See you forgot. Juju, voodoo, magic. Don’t worry Donald, we are the wrong ones. You are not safe because you are on another continent. Biko do yourself a favor, take a break. Wahala de come for you oh.”
The Oscars appearance and her role in 'Jesus Christ Superstar' continue to keep Cynthia Erivo in the public eye.
