Democrats are facing significant challenges according to a recent Harvard CAPS/Harris poll. The survey, conducted online with 2,443 registered voters, reveals President Donald Trump holding a 52 percent approval rating after his first month in office. In contrast, Democrats have fallen to an all-time low approval rating of 36 percent.
A notable 58 percent of respondents believe Trump is performing better than former President Joe Biden. Respondents also expressed strong support for Trump's policies on deporting illegal immigrants who have committed crimes (81 percent), eliminating government fraud and waste (76 percent), and closing the border (76 percent).
Despite criticism from Democrats towards Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), public opinion remains unaffected. A majority believes DOGE has successfully reduced government spending (60 percent) and that its scrutiny of expenditures was necessary (77 percent).
Mark Penn, Co-Director of the Harvard CAPS/Harris poll, noted that "people are taking a generally positive wait-and-see attitude for Trump but have really reassessed their attitudes toward Biden, Harris, and the Democrats."
The poll suggests that Democrats need to realign their strategies to resonate with ordinary Americans as current approaches seem ineffective.
