Starbucks has announced plans to lay off 1,100 corporate employees as part of a restructuring effort. CEO Brian Niccol informed employees in a letter that those affected would be notified on Tuesday. The layoffs aim to enhance efficiency, accountability, and integration within the company.
Niccol explained, "Our intent is to operate more efficiently, increase accountability, reduce complexity, and drive better integration." He also noted that baristas and warehouse staff would not be impacted by these layoffs.
The company currently employs 16,000 corporate staff worldwide. In addition to the layoffs, several hundred open positions will remain unfilled.
Earlier this year, Starbucks altered its open-door policy requiring customers to make a purchase if they wish to sit or use the restrooms in stores. This change follows previous incidents where cafes were seen as havens for non-paying individuals.
