FOIA Request to DeKalb County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at DeKalb GA News have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. for records pertaining to the upcoming election.
Specifically, we are seeking a list of all candidates running in this forthcoming election. The information requested includes the first, middle, and last names of the candidates; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.
In addition to these details, we have also asked for all available contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
Access to public records is crucial for us as media professionals. It allows us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As such, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
