The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has extended a buyout offer to its entire workforce, according to reports. This move aligns with President Trump's proposal encouraging federal workers to resign by February 6 in exchange for pay and benefits until September 30.

Trump's initiative aims to ensure federal employees align with the new administration's objectives. The offer excludes postal workers, military personnel, immigration officials, and those in national security roles. A senior administration official noted that over 20,000 federal workers have accepted the buyout so far.

"We expect more to come," the official stated. "If you see what's happening at USAID, it's just one piece of the puzzle."

John Ratcliffe, the new CIA Director, is leading these changes which include an eight-months pay and benefits package for employees choosing resignation. His directive also freezes hiring and reevaluates current job offers.

This action reflects Trump's strategy to downsize federal bureaucracy and focus on national security priorities like dismantling drug cartels and countering global adversaries such as China.

Meanwhile, Tulsi Gabbard's nomination as the next Director of National Intelligence has advanced in the Senate intelligence panel.

According to a Wall Street Journal report: "Trump administration officials have said the offers are also meant to signal to those who oppose Trump’s agenda to find work elsewhere." Ratcliffe suggested extending the same buyout package across CIA operations for a more aggressive agency approach.

A CIA spokeswoman described this move as part of an effort to "infuse the agency with renewed energy."

In his confirmation hearing, Ratcliffe emphasized launching hard-edge spying operations targeting drug cartels and China. He addressed CIA officers worldwide: “To the brave CIA officers listening around the world... buckle up and get ready to make a difference.”

The Trump administration plans for greater CIA focus on Western Hemisphere countries not traditionally seen as U.S. adversaries. This includes potential espionage activities related to trade negotiations with Mexico and combating Mexican drug cartels designated as terror groups by Trump on his first day in office.

Historically focused on Soviet rivalry post-creation and later transformed into a paramilitary force post-9/11, recent years saw CIA refocusing efforts towards countries like China viewed as significant long-term threats by U.S. national security officials.

Additionally, a joint interim report from various committees exposed alleged collusion between former intelligence officials including active CIA contractors during Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign concerning Hunter Biden laptop story narratives.

The report titled “The Intelligence Community 51” highlights involvement from figures such as former Deputy CIA Director Michael Morell alongside others shaping public perception pre-election period
