President Trump announced on Monday night that the U.S. Military has entered California to assist with water resources amid ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles County. The fires have led to evacuations, destroyed over 16,200 structures, and resulted in at least 29 deaths as of Monday.
"The United States Military just entered the Great State of California and, under Emergency Powers, TURNED ON THE WATER flowing abundantly from the Pacific Northwest, and beyond," President Trump stated on Truth Social. "The days of putting a Fake Environmental argument, over the PEOPLE, are OVER."
This move follows an executive order signed by President Trump titled “Emergency Measures to Provide Water Resources in California and Improve Disaster Response in Certain Areas.” The order highlights that firefighters faced difficulties due to dry hydrants and inadequate water infrastructure.
“It is in the Nation’s interest to ensure that California has what it needs to prevent and fight these fires,” the order states. It emphasizes providing Southern California with necessary water resources despite state or local policies.
Several federal officials are instructed to ensure adequate water resources in Southern California by "overriding disastrous California policies." Criticism was directed at Democrat leaders for leaving aquifers empty while prioritizing environmental concerns over fire-fighting needs.
President Trump also visited Los Angeles last Friday, criticizing Mayor Karen Bass for not expediting recovery efforts after the wildfires. He emphasized using emergency powers promptly for rebuilding efforts.
The announcement concluded with President Trump's message: "Enjoy the water, California!!!"
In response, the California Department of Water Resources denied military involvement in restarting water supplies. They clarified that federal pumps were restarted after maintenance downtime and state supplies remain plentiful.
