After 19 rounds of competition, Sarv Dharavane, a fifth-grader from Austin Elementary School, emerged victorious in the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) Spelling Bee on January 28. Sarv secured his second consecutive title by correctly spelling "bruxism," a term describing a condition where an individual grinds or clenches their teeth.

Sarv is set to advance to the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) Region 4 Spelling Bee on February 22, along with eight other DCSD students who also qualified. This event serves as a precursor to the Georgia State Bee and eventually the Scripps National Bee.

In the previous year, Sarv progressed to the Scripps National Spelling Bee after winning the GAE State Spelling Bee for the 63rd time. He successfully reached the semifinals at the national level.
