Senator Raphael Warnock has successfully advanced a $40 million authorization aimed at enhancing water infrastructure in DeKalb County. The funding, part of the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2024, was passed by the U.S. Senate with a decisive 97-1 vote on December 18.
"Georgians across the state rely on safe, clean, and reliable water for drinking, maintaining homes and businesses, and more," said Sen. Warnock. "But this is the type of work that goes largely unrecognized until disaster strikes, highlighting why it is so important to secure investments today that will protect Georgia’s water infrastructure tomorrow."
The act includes provisions pushed by both Sen. Warnock and Sen. Jon Ossoff authorizing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide up to $40 million for planning, design, and construction assistance for these projects in DeKalb County.
DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond expressed gratitude for the support from Senators Warnock and Ossoff: "This critical funding will allow DeKalb County to continue to repair, upgrade and modernize its water and sewer infrastructure."
Senator Warnock has been a strong advocate for infrastructure investments in Georgia, focusing on improving water systems and enhancing deepwater ports crucial to the state's economy.
It should be noted that while this authorization has been secured, actual project funding will require separate approval through a federal appropriations package.
