Former Biden adviser Anita Dunn spoke at a New York Times roundtable event, where she stated that the Justice Department had not been weaponized against former President Donald Trump. Her comments were met with skepticism and criticism.

During the discussion, Jason Miller, a top aide to President-elect Donald Trump, challenged Dunn's assertion in real-time. Miller highlighted that Trump was indicted for possession of classified documents, an issue similar to one involving President Joe Biden. In Biden's case, Special Counsel Robert Hur concluded that Biden did not act intentionally due to his age and memory issues.

Dunn defended Attorney General Merrick Garland during her remarks at the New York Times’ DealBook Summit 2024. She claimed that Garland did not politicize the Department of Justice (DOJ). "The one thing that people really would not say about Merrick Garland is that he has been a political attorney general," Dunn stated. She continued by saying, "When you look at this attorney general, this Department of Justice … the one thing you can really not say about it is that it operated as a political arm of the White House."

Despite her assertions, reactions from various quarters suggest a divide in opinions regarding the DOJ's actions under Attorney General Garland.
