Pubs across the United Kingdom are facing a shortage of Guinness, leading some establishments to ration pints of the popular Irish stout. This development comes as demand for the beverage remains high, particularly in the lead-up to Christmas.
The Independent UK has reported that pubs have been purchasing Guinness in large quantities to avoid running out during the festive season. However, some venues have already depleted their stock. One such pub, the Old Ivy House in Clerkenwell, London, implemented rationing measures last week but still faced supply issues.
Katie Davidson, landlady of the Old Ivy House, explained to The Times that customers were issued cards allowing them to buy one pint of Guinness only after purchasing two other drinks. She stated, "I normally make sure I have seven barrels per week and I would up that in the run-up to Christmas. But I was restricted to only four [by our brewery]. So on Wednesday, when I got my order, we only had half a barrel left in the cellar at the busiest time of the year. And we’d run out by 10pm on Friday night."
While this shortage is causing concern among British pubs and patrons alike, it has not affected Ireland's supply of Guinness.
