The former girlfriend who played a pivotal role in the investigation of sex trafficking allegations against Matt Gaetz has been identified as Brianna Garcia. A former Capitol Hill intern and Democrat campaigner, Garcia's identity was first reported by the Daily Mail.
Despite her involvement in the case, Garcia now expresses support for Gaetz, who has been nominated for Attorney General by President-elect Donald Trump. She stated, "He’ll be great for the country. Matt’s very smart."
Garcia, 28, had previously testified before a grand jury during the investigation into Gaetz. Sources from the Daily Mail indicated that she "gave secret evidence in the investigation into the Trump loyalist."
The investigation began in late 2020 under then-Attorney General Bill Barr and relied on testimonies from individuals with questionable credibility. By 2022, investigators advised against pursuing charges due to these concerns. The Department of Justice announced in 2023 that it would not press charges against Gaetz, closing the investigation.
In an interview outside her Tampa apartment, Garcia expressed reluctance to discuss details about her past relationship with Gaetz but showed support for his new political role.
Confirming to DailyMail.com that she was once in a relationship with Gaetz, Garcia refrained from disclosing what she revealed during her testimony. Holding her toddler outside her Tampa home, she remarked about her past with Gaetz: "That’s like a past life now."
Gaetz's nomination as Attorney General has reignited interest in his past investigations. His confirmation process is expected to face significant scrutiny; however, Garcia appears unfazed by this prospect.
