Last week, AAHOA Vice President of Government Affairs Dean Heyl presented on a panel during the SLS conference in Memphis, Tennessee. Heyl paneled with Congressman David Kustoff, State Senator Bo Watson, and Troy Flanagan, Senior VP of Government Affairs of AHLA. Dustin Goforth, Founding Partner of Capitol & 5th Public Strategies, moderated an insightful and informative discussion amongst the panelists.
It was a wide-ranging discussion on issues affecting the hotel industry. In particular, the problems of homelessness (such as the recent Los Angeles voucher ordinance and Albuquerque's increased crime rate), the rise of unfair STR competition, and traditional lodging. Heyl stated, "AAHOA supports private property rights, but homeowners also have the right not to have Animal Houses to the left and right of them." Congressman Kustoff discussed his concerns about skyrocketing inflation during the event, as well.
