Senator Joni Ernst from Iowa recently appeared on the FOX Business Network to discuss her ongoing work with the Office of Government Efficiency, referred to as DOGE. During her appearance, she shared an unusual occurrence she observed among some federal employees. Ernst noted that some of these workers returned to their offices only to protest the requirement to physically be present at work, which she described with the phrase, “You actually had workers that showed up at the office to protest having to come back to work at the office.”

Ernst has been involved in government efficiency efforts, including projects such as SQUEAL, a campaign she has pursued for a decade. She credited former President Trump and the Office of Government Efficiency for addressing such behaviors among federal employees.

This unusual protest comes in the wake of Trump’s directive to federal employees, which mandated that all executive branch employees should terminate remote work arrangements and return to in-person duties at their respective duty stations. The directive allowed department and agency heads to make necessary exemptions.

Senator Ernst emphasized her ongoing commitment to holding government workers accountable and ensuring that Washington functions efficiently for the public. She remarked on her Twitter account, stating, “Federal employees showed up to the office — not to work — but to protest returning to work.”
