Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is gaining traction beyond the federal level as several Republican-led states establish their own task forces to address government waste. According to Newsmax, governors and lawmakers in Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin are creating efficiency task forces modeled after the federal initiative.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has initiated a "DOGE task force" focused on auditing spending and reducing bureaucracy. DeSantis stated on X that state agencies would use artificial intelligence to enhance efforts for a streamlined government. He noted the impact of federal DOGE initiatives and expressed optimism about Florida's potential contributions.
In Texas, a 13-member bipartisan group has been formed to eliminate inefficiencies within the state government. Similarly, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced her own DOGE committee aimed at continuing her administration's efforts in consolidating agencies and cutting regulations. Her office reported savings of $217 million over 18 months due to these measures.
Other states have also launched similar programs with the goal of reducing public fund waste. Since its inception in January under Musk's leadership, the federal Department of Government Efficiency has identified approximately $1 trillion in potential cuts and savings. Musk has suggested that these savings could contribute to national debt reduction or potentially fund a "DOGE Dividend" payment of $5,000 for eligible taxpayers.
