The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) has launched Project ELEVATE 2025, a program aimed at helping high school seniors who are off track to graduate on time. The initiative is designed for students in the four-year cohort who began 9th grade during the 2020-2021 school year.
DCSD Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton expressed optimism about the program's potential impact, stating, "We are very optimistic about this approach to enhancing our students’ graduation success." He emphasized the importance of aligning proven instructional strategies with current coursework to help students reach their full potential.
Students participating in Project ELEVATE 2025 attend Elizabeth Andrews High School for a full day of learning, which includes both in-person and blended online instruction. DCSD provides free transportation from regional hubs to facilitate access to the program. Stephenson High School senior Shawn Wise praised the program, noting that smaller class sizes and stricter teachers prevent students from falling behind.
Clarkston High School senior Rose Desrosiers and Martin Luther King, Jr. High School senior Trevion Gray also appreciated the support they received from their teachers in achieving their graduation goals. Trevion commented on the focused attention from teachers: "The teachers try to help to make sure we stay on track."
Rose added that teachers at Project ELEVATE are more attentive compared to those at her home school. All three students noted that distractions from devices are minimized, helping them stay focused on their assignments.
Students who adhere to the Project ELEVATE participation agreement may participate in end-of-year senior activities, including graduation ceremonies at their home schools. This reflects DCSD's commitment to providing resources and support necessary for academic excellence and preparing students for future endeavors such as college or careers.
