The DeKalb County Board of Education held its final regular meeting of 2024 on December 9, marking the end of an era as three board members prepared to step down. The meeting included tributes to Mrs. Anna Hill, Dr. Joyce Morley, and Mrs. Vickie B. Turner, who were honored by colleagues, staff, and community members for their service.

The event was both a celebration and a significant milestone for the board members who contributed through strategic financial oversight and student-focused policies. Superintendent Dr. Devon Q. Horton commended their dedication: “They have consistently shown the highest levels of commitment to making our District the best it can be,” he said.

Mrs. Anna Hill has served as the District 1 representative since 2021. As a certified public accountant in Georgia, she brought fiscal insight and community connection to her role. Reflecting on her tenure, she noted, “We’ve grown as a District, and we’ve grown as a community.”

Dr. Joyce Morley represented District 7 since 2013 and is known for her long-term commitment and educational expertise. Her background as an educator enriched her contributions to the board: “The most rewarding thing for me is the children,” she stated.

Mrs. Vickie B. Turner served District 5 for ten years and was also Board Chair during her tenure. With over two decades in education, she emphasized public education's importance: “There is no cause greater than public education,” she remarked.

These outgoing leaders leave behind a legacy focused on uniting communities and prioritizing students' needs in DeKalb County.

As new board members step into their roles, they will build upon these achievements to continue fostering educational success within the district.
