Five schools in the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) have been recognized with the College Success Award for 2024. This award is given by GreatSchools, a nonprofit organization that highlights public high schools excelling in preparing students for college.

The five DCSD schools are part of a select group of 104 public schools in Georgia to receive this recognition. The award honors schools that support students through the college enrollment process and encourage their continued education, particularly benefiting those from low-income backgrounds.

Dr. Devon Q. Horton, Superintendent of DCSD, praised the achievement: “I congratulate these outstanding schools on this well-deserved recognition. As you can see, our schools do much more than teach. Across our District, we are committed to guiding and supporting our students for success in their post-secondary educational and career goals.”

Arabia Mountain High School and DeKalb School of the Arts have now received this award six times.

GreatSchools aims to provide families with resources to access quality education. Its College Readiness Rating assesses how well high schools prepare students for college and careers compared to others statewide. It evaluates graduation rates, college entrance exam scores (SAT/ACT), and participation in advanced courses like International Baccalaureate (IB), dual enrollment, and Advanced Placement (AP), including AP exam pass rates.
