President Donald Trump has announced that Brendan Carr will be the new Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Carr, who is currently a senior Republican at the FCC, has been recognized for his advocacy in protecting free speech and opposing regulatory overreach.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, stating, "I am pleased to announce that Commissioner Brandon Carr will be the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Commissioner Carr currently serves as a senior Republican on the FCC. Before that, he was the agency’s General Counsel. I first nominated Commissioner Carr to the FCC in 2017, and he has been confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate three times. His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will not be designating him as permanent Chairman."

The President praised Carr as "a warrior for Free Speech" who has opposed regulatory measures perceived to hinder American freedoms and economic growth. He expressed confidence that Carr would address regulatory challenges affecting job creators and innovators while ensuring service delivery to rural America.

Carr's tenure at the FCC began in 2012. He previously served as an advisor to former FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and worked as an attorney specializing in appellate litigation and regulatory matters. He also clerked for Judge Dennis Shedd on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. A graduate of Georgetown University, Carr earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law.

Recently, Carr addressed major tech companies Meta, Google, Microsoft, and Apple through a letter criticizing their roles in what he described as a "censorship cartel." In this letter, he accused these companies of collaborating with media monitors to suppress news outlets deviating from mainstream narratives.

Carr expressed gratitude towards President Trump for his appointment via social media platform X: "Thank you, President Trump! I am humbled and honored to serve as Chairman of the FCC. Now we get to work."
