The Swedish government is dealing with an unusual situation involving a minister's phobia. Paulina Brandberg, the Minister for Gender Equality, has sought treatment for her fear of bananas. This condition has led to staff ensuring rooms are free of bananas before official visits.

Emails leaked to a tabloid revealed that Brandberg's team had taken "banana-proofing" measures due to what was initially described as a "strong allergy." These emails requested that no bananas be present during her visits. Brandberg has since confirmed to Expressen newspaper that she suffers from a banana phobia, which she likened to an allergy and stated she is receiving professional help.

A banana phobia can cause anxiety and nausea when the fruit is seen or smelled, with some experts suggesting it may develop in childhood. The issue gained attention after demands for "banana-free zones" were publicized. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed support for Brandberg, stating he had "great respect" for those with phobias and criticized the ridicule she faced.

An opposition MP also disclosed having a similar fear, indicating this condition may not be unique in Sweden.
