GOP Congressman Cory Mills announced plans to conduct a "parallel independent investigation" into the attempted assassination of President Trump. This decision follows Speaker Johnson's formation of a task force to investigate the Butler shooting, which Mills finds inadequate.

Mills, a Florida lawmaker and former sniper, expressed disappointment in the composition of Johnson’s task force. He noted the absence of veterans Eli Crane and himself from the group. "It’s very unfortunate but not surprising for anyone familiar with how DC works. I’m not a politician, leadership, or a ‘yes man,’” Mills stated on X.

Mills intends to collaborate with other members and fund additional staff for his investigation despite lacking subpoena powers. "I wish the members of Speaker Johnson’s Task Force well," he added, emphasizing the need for subject matter experts and whistleblowers in uncovering the truth.

Speaker Johnson's task force includes seven Republicans: Mike Kelly, Mark Green, Dave Joyce, Laurel Lee, Michael Waltz, Clay Higgins, and Pat Fallon. Mills and Crane had visited the site of Trump's attempted assassination in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Mills suspects that the assassination attempt on July 13 could have been orchestrated and questions why he was excluded from the task force. He suggests potential involvement by insiders such as the Secret Service.

The official account describes Thomas Crooks as acting alone in executing complex maneuvers at Trump’s rally without assistance. This narrative has been met with skepticism by many observers.
