Erik Van Conover, a well-known YouTube personality from New York, has been arrested in New Hampshire on charges of attempted murder. He is accused of attempting to hit a police officer with his car following a high-speed chase.
During his court appearance on Monday, Van Conover denied the allegations and claimed that the police had falsified documents related to the incident. "I have everything right here, and it’s all falsified," he stated during his arraignment. He also challenged anyone questioning his mental competence, saying, "If anyone dares try to test my mental competence, I will eviscerate every single person with my intelligence right now. And that’s not being egotistical."
According to police reports, the pursuit began when Van Conover was allegedly observed driving 55 mph in a 35-mph zone. After an eight-mile chase, he stopped briefly but then allegedly drove at an officer and struck him in the leg before fleeing for another 28 miles.
The Daily Mail reported that after this incident, Van Conover continued driving to Carroll where deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office pursued him further. The chase covered a total of 38 miles before state police officers used spike strips to stop him.
Keith Blair, representing the state as Carroll County Attorney, commented on the situation: "You know, the state’s position is that when a law enforcement officer signals for you to pull over and stop, you should do so."
A video clip circulating online shows Van Conover becoming emotional during his arraignment while maintaining his innocence based on his social media following.
