Democrats and the media have been attempting to shape the public perception of JD Vance, Donald Trump's running mate, by portraying him as 'weird.' However, a recent Wall Street Journal poll suggests that this strategy may not be effective. The poll indicates that Vance is currently more popular than Kamala Harris.

Harris has struggled with popularity since becoming Vice President under Joe Biden. There seems to be skepticism among some Democrats about her potential appeal in a presidential race.

Breitbart News highlighted the poll results: "Polling shows that Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (OH) is more popular than presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris, shattering the establishment media’s narrative."

CNN's senior political data reporter Harry Enten expressed confusion over Trump's choice of Vance as his running mate, citing what he considered to be Vance's lackluster net favorability. Yet, according to the Wall Street Journal survey, 42% of registered voters view Vance favorably compared to 44% who view him unfavorably. In contrast, Harris is viewed unfavorably by 52% of respondents while 46% see her positively—her best performance in the current election cycle.

Andrew Surabian shared on Twitter: "Fake News narrative buster: Brand new Wall Street Journal poll shows @JDVance is viewed more favorably by voters than Kamala Harris." He noted that the polling took place shortly after a viral clip circulated online.

The ongoing discussion around Vance appears to serve as a diversion from substantive issues according to some observers.
