Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in a strike on his residence in Tehran, according to Press TV. The incident occurred less than 24 hours after Israel eliminated a top Hezbollah military commander.
The announcement of Haniyeh's death was confirmed by the Iranian state network, Press TV. Goldie Ghamari, an MPP, expressed her views on social media: "The terrorist Islamic Regime in Iran just confirmed this through its #IRGCterrorists propaganda network, Press TV."
Rep. Mike Waltz commented on the situation stating, “Haniyeh was the terrorist face of Hamas. The guy hobnobbing with the Ayatollahs and holding court in luxury hotels in Qatar and Turkey. Btw, he skimmed millions $ off smuggling goods into Gaza while the people suffered in poverty. Even the IRGC couldn’t protect him.”
The Tehran Times reported that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed during the attack. A statement from the IRGC read: “With condolences to the heroic nation of Palestine and the Islamic nation and the combatants of the Resistance Front and the noble nation of Iran, this morning (Wednesday) the residence of Mr. Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, head of political office of Islamic Resistance of Hamas, was hit in Tehran.”
Haniyeh had previously condemned Osama Bin Laden's killing as seen at an inauguration ceremony for Iran’s new president earlier that day.
This event followed closely after Israel targeted Fuad Shukr, a Hezbollah military commander responsible for several attacks over three decades.
