MSNBC recently conducted a focus group with Black voters to discuss their views on former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. The session did not unfold as the network might have anticipated.
During the discussion, participants were asked if they knew any Black men planning to vote for Trump. All members of the group raised their hands in response. When questioned about whether Kamala Harris's entry into the presidential race would influence their stance, they unanimously indicated that it would not.
According to a report by Townhall, this is not an isolated incident. MSNBC has encountered similar responses in other focus groups concerning Kamala Harris. In Wisconsin, swing voters expressed concerns about her alleged involvement in concealing information regarding President Joe Biden's health. A Georgia voter shared comparable views with CNN.
The topic of identity politics was also touched upon during these discussions. It was suggested that such politics predominantly resonate with college-educated white women and are perceived as less relevant among non-white progressives.
The video capturing this focus group interaction was shared online by MAGA War Room on July 28, 2024:
MSNBC: “How many of you know a Black man who has expressed to you that they’re committed to voting for Donald Trump?”
*All hands go up*
“Has the emergence of Kamala Harris changed that?”
“No.”
These types of interactions continue to surface during MSNBC's voter engagement efforts.
