A recent poll conducted by Harvard/Harris shows former President Donald Trump leading Vice President Kamala Harris in a hypothetical matchup for the 2024 presidential election. With leaners included, Trump stands at 52 percent compared to Harris's 48 percent. Without leaners, Trump's lead narrows slightly to 48 percent against Harris's 45 percent.
The results of this poll are significant for Trump, marking a majority that he did not achieve in his previous campaigns in 2016 or 2020. The survey was carried out following a major shift within the Democratic Party, capturing the media attention surrounding Harris.
Ed Morrissey from Hot Air commented on the findings: "According to a new Harvard-Harris CAPS poll, Donald Trump leads Kamala Harris 52/48 with leaners, and 48/45 without. Harris has improved Joe Biden’s numbers on the latter, but not the former."
Morrissey also pointed out that even undecided voters appear to be leaning towards Trump. He highlighted that Trump maintains stronger support among Republicans than Harris does within her own party: "In fact, her 87% without leaners should be a red flag for the DNC."
The poll also revealed that independent voters favor Trump by six points both with and without leaners. Morrissey questioned whether the sample might skew towards Democrats given these figures.
The issues most important to respondents were inflation (37%), immigration (33%), and the economy and jobs (27%), which currently seem to benefit Republican candidates.
Michael McAdams noted on social media that there are warning signs for Democrats due to unpopular policy positions attributed to Harris: "67% oppose open borders; 68% oppose ending private healthcare; 72% oppose electric vehicle mandate."
While Republicans see these results as promising, they acknowledge there is no room for complacency as they approach future elections.
