Scott Jennings raised criticism against the Democratic Party for its support of Harvard University amidst its clash with President Trump. According to Jennings, the Democrats side with the university even though it has a substantial endowment of $53 billion.
Jennings aired his concerns on CNN, stating, “I think, as a political matter, if you went out to the American people right now and said ‘well, we’re just not gonna make it as a country unless we give $9 billion to Harvard, it’s sitting on $53 billion.’ You’d get your ass kicked, I imagine, in a political campaign.”
On the issue of universities and national security, Jennings pointed out concerns about the admission of students, suggesting that some may pose a national security risk due to their views on western civilization. He argued that “these Ivy League colleges are turning out people who fundamentally hate western civilization.”
Jennings believes that universities have an important role, but suggests they should heed the public's concerns to maintain government support. He said, “I do agree that these universities are important. They do important work. But I don’t agree that we need to continue to fund people who don’t listen to us when we say ‘you have problems.’”
The debate continues as Jennings asserts that American taxpayers should not finance institutions that do not align with broader public values.
