Senator Rand Paul appeared on CBS's "Face the Nation" with host Margaret Brennan to discuss several topics, including the possibility of reclaiming federal funds. Brennan highlighted a report that suggested Paul had proposed to Elon Musk a plan to recover $500 billion in federal funding already approved by Congress.

Brennan asked, “Do you think you can actually get this done in a rescission package, and how much money do you think you can get back?” In response, Paul said, “This goes to another huge legal question. Can the President impound money, or does he have to send it back, and we approve the cuts through recission? And this is going all the way to the Supreme Court also.”

Paul also mentioned Secretary Rubio's role in potentially pausing spending: “Can Secretary Rubio pause the spending? On that issue, I think they will win. You will be able to pause spending.” He further expressed his belief in adhering to current laws: “It is my personal belief we should adhere to the law as it is now. That is send it back and have Congress confirm it. It’s a simple majority vote. It’s called recission. I did mention this to Elon Musk. He seemed enthusiastic.”

Senator Paul was questioned about educational funding following efforts to eliminate the Department of Education. Brennan asked if there was assurance that federal taxpayers would continue providing two billion dollars for education in Kentucky.

Paul responded by emphasizing educational outcomes over funding amounts: “What I’d rather is a guarantee that my kids can read and write and do math,” adding, “Dollars are not proportional to educational success.”

Following recent cuts by President Trump affecting the U.S. Education Department, Paul expressed his vision for an innovative approach in teaching: After President Trump’s cuts... Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) says he’d like to see “an NBA or NFL of teachers,” with “the most extraordinary teachers” reaching “the entire country” or “the entire world” virtually.
