Rep. Hank Johnson, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing Georgia's 4th district since 2007, has recently made several statements via social media addressing issues ranging from privacy concerns to civil rights recognition.
On February 4, 2025, Rep. Johnson criticized Elon Musk's access to personal data and expressed concern over Republican priorities. He stated, ".@ElonMusk, a private citizen, shouldn't have access to your personal data. Instead of introducing legislation to curb this overreach and lower prices, Republicans are more concerned with whether Elon will bankroll them in the primaries."
The following day, on February 5, 2025, he announced his initiative to honor civil rights activists known as the Freedom Riders by reintroducing a resolution for awarding them the Congressional Gold Medal. He tweeted: "I’m proud to reintroduce a resolution to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the Freedom Riders–heroes who risked everything to fight segregation. Their courage changed history. It’s time to honor them."
On February 6, 2025, Rep. Johnson issued a cautionary message aimed at federal employees through another tweet: "Federal employees, don't fall for the okie doke."
