DeKalb County completes repairs on broken water main; boil advisory still in place

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management crews have completed repairs on a 30-inch broken water main located at 3661 Clairmont Road. The repair work has been confirmed by DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, who stated, "We are excited to announce that the water main break has been repaired." She further added, "When you start a job of this magnitude, whatever you find, you must deal with it in real time."

Despite the restoration of service, residents in the affected area may notice brown, milky, or discolored water. It is recommended that they run faucets both inside and outside their properties to clear the internal plumbing systems.

A boil water advisory remains in effect until further notice. Residents can view the advisory area map through the DeKalb Boil Water Advisory WebMap link provided by local authorities.

For those in need of clean drinking water, bottled water distribution centers have been set up at several locations: Fire Station 1 on Clifton Rd., Fire Station 3 on N. Clarendon Ave., Fire Station 7 on Columbia Dr., Fire Station 9 on N. Druid Hills Rd., Fire Station 20 on Warren Rd., and RaceTrac on Clairmont Rd.

Motorists are advised to continue using detours and avoid the area if possible due to ongoing traffic delays. Residents experiencing issues with their water service or requiring more information should contact the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management via email at dekalbwaterops@dekalbcountyga.gov or phone at 770-270-6243.
