Voters in key swing states express more trust in former President Donald Trump than in current President Joe Biden to protect democracy, according to a recent poll by The Washington Post/Schar School. The survey targeted voters across six pivotal states and highlighted a group of respondents identified as "deciders."
The results showed that 38% of these "deciders" believe Trump would better handle threats to democracy, compared to 29% for Biden and 23% who said neither. This subgroup includes individuals who voted in the 2016 or 2020 elections, are under 25 years old, have been registered since 2022, are undecided about voting, or have changed party allegiance between the two elections.
Overall, among all swing state voters surveyed, 44% expressed more trust in Trump to safeguard democracy compared to 33% for Biden. Meanwhile, 16% indicated they trusted neither candidate on this issue, and another 7% trusted both equally.
These findings come amidst ongoing political debates over democratic processes and actions taken against political opponents. The poll has sparked discussions on social media platforms with comments from various individuals highlighting perceived ironies and questioning the implications for upcoming political events.
