Today marks the third anniversary of the Kabul Airport bombing that claimed the lives of 13 U.S. servicemen and women. President Trump honored these service members who lost their lives during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan after Joe Biden's administration surrendered to the Taliban.
Absent from the ceremony were President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Reports indicate that Biden is on vacation, while Harris is engaged in campaigning activities.
On August 26, 2021, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive at Abbey Gate of Kabul Airport, resulting in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members and over 170 Afghan civilians.
Reports have surfaced suggesting that top military officials, including Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley, were aware of an imminent threat hours before the attack but failed to act decisively to protect American troops and civilians.
U.S. Marine Sgt. Tyler Vargas-Andrews provided testimony before Congress last year, revealing he was denied permission to shoot the suicide bomber despite clear indications of an impending attack.
"Throughout the entirety of the day on August 26, 2021, we disseminated the suicide bomber information to ground forces," Vargas-Andrews stated. "The individual was consistently and nervously looking up at our position through the crowd."
Vargas-Andrews recounted how he requested engagement authority multiple times but was denied each time. "Our battalion commander said, 'I don’t know,'" he testified.
Senior advisor to President Trump, Jason Miller, criticized Vice President Harris for her role in the withdrawal decision-making process. "Kamala Harris was the last person in the room when this atrocity took place," Miller said.
In response, Vice President Harris defended her actions in a statement: "As I have said, President Biden made the courageous and right decision to end America’s longest war."
The Trump campaign has released a video highlighting this tragic event as a reminder of what they describe as incompetence by the Biden-Harris administration.
"As America reflects on this tragic anniversary," read a tweet from Team Trump (@TeamTrump), "President Trump will never forget them."
