Telegram founder Pavel Durov was arrested on Saturday at Le Bourget airport in France for refusing to comply with the country’s censorship laws. The 39-year-old CEO was detained on the tarmac as he disembarked from his private jet arriving from Azerbaijan.

Mike Benz, the founder and Executive Director of the Foundation for Freedom Online, released a video attributing the arrest to actions by the US State Department. Benz is recognized as an authority on Deep State activities and US government operations both in Europe and abroad.

In a previous interview with Tucker Carlson, Durov claimed that the US government had attempted to infiltrate Telegram. He recounted an incident where an engineer working for Telegram was approached by cybersecurity officers or agents during a visit to the United States.

Durov stated, "But there’s this second part, which was probably more alarming there in the US. We got too much attention from the FBI, the security agencies, wherever we came to the US. To give an example, last time I was in the US, I brought an engineer that is working for Telegram, and there was an attempt to secretly hire my engineer behind my back by cyber security officers or agents, whatever they are called."

Carlson queried whether it was true that "The US government should hire your engineer?" To which Durov responded affirmatively based on what his engineer told him.

Carlson further asked if this hiring attempt aimed at writing code for them or breaking into Telegram. Durov explained that they were interested in knowing which open-source libraries were integrated into Telegram's app on the client side and tried persuading his engineer to use specific open-source tools that could be integrated into Telegram's code as backdoors.

Durov elaborated that such backdoors would allow not just the US government but potentially any other government to spy on Telegram users: "The US government or maybe any other government because a backdoor is a backdoor regardless of who is using it."
