State Representative Viola Davis (D-Stone Mountain) has described her recent Transportation Town Hall in Tucker as a successful example of collaboration between city, county, and state leaders. The event took place on September 11, 2025, at Tucker City Hall and brought together residents, city officials, county leaders, and Georgia Department of Transportation representatives to discuss local transportation issues.
“This town hall is one of the first times that a local council member, county commissioner and state representative came together in response to a community request for more information on transportation,” said Rep. Davis. “It is a perfect example of the power of collaboration and shows how we can better serve our residents when we work across jurisdictions.”
Tucker Mayor Frank Auman began the evening with welcoming remarks. The meeting featured updates from Paul DeNard, District Engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation, who spoke about ongoing projects such as improvements to Mountain Industrial Boulevard and the Express Lane Expansion Project. This project impacts ten homes in the Tucker area. Attendees had opportunities to ask questions about project timelines, property effects, and safety concerns.
Councilwoman Cara Schroeder was noted for her role in organizing the event, while Commissioner Shakira Johnson helped ensure DeKalb County transportation staff were available to provide information on projects affecting unincorporated areas.
Rep. Davis emphasized that events like this highlight the importance of government transparency and involving residents in decisions that shape their neighborhoods.
Burns has served as a Republican representative for Georgia’s 159th House District since 2005 after succeeding Ray Holland.
