A former press secretary for First Lady Jill Biden has confirmed that the Biden administration required pre-screened questions from reporters. This revelation came during an appearance on the Young Turks podcast, where Michael LaRosa discussed the administration's interactions with journalists.
LaRosa explained to host Cenk Uygur that the Biden administration pressured "a lot of journalists" by demanding pre-screened questions and "quote approval." He stated, "I mean you saw them get caught trying to script questions to radio reporters that summer, summer of 2024. It was very reminiscent to me of being on the campaign in 2020."
LaRosa also recounted advising young press staffers against asking journalists for specific questions ahead of time. He recalled telling them, “Please never ask the journalist for the questions ahead of time. You can always ask about the topics, but do not ask them for the questions for Dr. Biden.”
He added that within "Biden world," there was a practice where one person decided what quotes a reporter could use, emphasizing, "Everything had to be on quote approval."
The discussion highlights longstanding suspicions regarding President Joe Biden's interactions with media personnel. For years, he has been observed using notecards or lists during press engagements.
The topic sparked debate online with critics comparing it unfavorably to how previous administrations managed press relations.
