Gun control advocate David Hogg has received additional endorsements in his campaign to become vice chair of the Democratic National Committee. Among those supporting him are Rep. Eric Swalwell from California and Randi Weingarten, head of a major teachers' union.
Hogg, known for his activism following the 2018 shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, previously gained the endorsement of Tim Walz, who ran alongside Kamala Harris in a past election.
Swalwell publicly announced his support on social media: “I’m proud to endorse David Hogg for DNC Vice Chair!” Weingarten also expressed her backing through social media interactions with Hogg.
Despite these endorsements, some political observers question how electing Hogg might impact efforts to regain voters who have distanced themselves from the Democratic Party. Nevertheless, figures like Swalwell remain optimistic about his candidacy.
Tim Walz commented earlier this month: “David Hogg represents exactly the kind of bold, dynamic and courageous leadership our party needs right now.” He emphasized Hogg's ability to connect with people and support the party's strengths.
The New York Daily News highlighted Hogg’s growing support as he aims for a leadership role within the Democratic Party. The 24-year-old continues to draw attention both from supporters and critics alike.
While conservatives have also weighed in on Hogg's candidacy, their reasons differ significantly from those of his endorsers. Some have used humor or sarcasm to comment on his potential influence within the party.
As discussions continue regarding Hogg’s bid for vice chairmanship, it remains uncertain how this decision will affect the Democratic Party moving forward.
