Jim Acosta, a long-time anchor at CNN, is reportedly planning to leave the network. This follows his removal from the 10 a.m. weekday time slot by CNN CEO Mark Thompson. Oliver Darcy of Status News, who previously worked for CNN, shared that Acosta has indicated his intention to depart after being reassigned to a less favorable midnight or 2 a.m. slot.
Acosta's show had achieved notable ratings success over the past 11 months, sometimes surpassing prime-time programs in viewership. However, the new time slot offered lower viewership levels as it aired during hours when cable news typically sees reduced audiences. CNN suggested that Acosta could move to Los Angeles to host this program, framing it as a prime-time opportunity on the West Coast.
Darcy noted that Acosta's decision comes amid significant changes at CNN and coincides with Donald Trump's return to political prominence. The media landscape has evolved considerably since Trump's first term began in 2017.
