Joe Biden, in his remarks on the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, made a pointed comment directed at President-elect Donald Trump. During an event in St. Croix, when asked by a reporter what Trump could learn from Carter, Biden emphasized "decency" three times and elaborated on the differences he perceives between Carter and Trump.

Biden's response came amidst efforts by White House staff to conclude the press session. The question posed was partially obscured due to overlapping conversations but focused on potential lessons for Trump from Carter's legacy.

Biden stated: “Decency. Decency. Decency. Everybody deserves a shot, everybody. Can you imagine Jimmy Carter walking by someone who needs something to just keep walking? Can you imagine Jimmy Carter referring to someone by the way they look or the way they talk? I can’t. I can’t." He continued, highlighting America's values and how Carter embodied them: "We said what we believe... The rest of the world looks to us... And he was worth looking to."

This comment followed statements from both Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance praising Carter's dedication to public service. Vance remarked: “Jimmy Carter dedicated his life to serving this country... May he Rest in Peace.”

Trump acknowledged the challenges faced during Carter’s presidency and expressed respect for his efforts: “The challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a pivotal time for our country... For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude.” He also extended condolences from himself and Melania Trump to the Carter family.

In a subsequent statement, Trump noted philosophical differences with Carter but recognized his love for America: "While I strongly disagreed with him philosophically and politically, I also realized that he truly loved and respected our Country..." He concluded with condolences from both himself and Melania.

As of now, there has been no response from Trump regarding Biden's comments.
