President Joe Biden took a moment during his trip to St. Croix to address the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, who died in Georgia at the age of 100. During his remarks, Biden shared personal anecdotes about his relationship with Carter.

"[Jimmy Carter] was like my dad. He’d say, ‘Joey, a job’s about a lot more than a paycheck,'" Biden recalled. The president's comments were made available on social media by RNC Research.

Biden also reflected on the length of their friendship: "I've been hangin' out with Jimmy Carter for over 50 years, it dawned on me."

Carter had been receiving hospice care since February 2023 and was last seen publicly during a military flyover celebration for his centennial birthday in October. His wife, Rosalynn Carter, passed away in November 2023.

In previous conversations reported by The Washington Post and Associated Press, Carter expressed little concern for his milestone birthday but emphasized his desire to vote for Kamala Harris.

Following Carter's death, President Biden delivered a nine-minute statement that included prepared remarks from the White House YouTube Channel.
