New polling data reveals that a significant portion of Americans are indifferent to the political opinions of celebrities. The poll, conducted by the Associated Press in collaboration with the University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center, highlights a trend where most Americans, particularly Republicans, prefer not to hear political views from athletes and celebrities.
The survey indicates that just under 40 percent of Democrats support celebrities sharing their political opinions. In contrast, only 11 percent of Republicans and 12 percent of independents agree. Similar sentiments were observed regarding professional athletes, with 39 percent of Democrats approving compared to 16 percent of Republicans and 15 percent of independents.
Breitbart News reports: "Poll: Overwhelming Majority of Americans Don’t Care About Celebrities’ Political Opinions."
Historically, there has been an association between Hollywood figures and Democratic campaigns. During Barack Obama's presidency, many celebrities actively supported his administration. Attempts to replicate this strategy in Kamala Harris's campaign involved personalities like Oprah Winfrey and Lizzo but did not yield the desired impact.
The findings suggest a shift in public perception towards celebrity involvement in politics. This sentiment was also evident after the 2016 election when some Hollywood figures unsuccessfully urged Electoral College electors not to confirm Donald Trump as president.
