In the 2024 election, all 50 states in the United States shifted to the right, with Republicans gaining votes even in traditionally Democratic strongholds such as Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey. This trend was highlighted by a map showing darker red states that moved further to the right.
Eric Daugherty noted on social media: "#BREAKING: After more votes have come in, all 50 American states and D.C swung to the right from 2020."
According to Roll Call, West Virginia experienced the most significant baseline change compared to two years ago. The Republican advantage increased by 11.5 points due to adjustments in calculations that no longer include Democratic victories for state treasurer and governor. Other notable shifts included Pennsylvania moving 2.4 points rightward and traditionally Republican states like Montana (3.8 points) and Missouri (2.1 points) also moving further right.
In contrast, Democratic-leaning states like Hawaii (4.3 points), New Jersey (1.9 points), and New York saw shifts toward Republicans, with New York moving 3.8 points due in part to GOP gains on Long Island.
The baseline shift from 2020 to 2024 was more pronounced in some states; Arkansas is now 8.5 points more Republican than four years ago, Idaho is up by 6.7 points, and Wyoming by 3.9 points.
Despite Democrats holding an 18.7-point baseline advantage in New York, this still represents a significant shift of 6.9 points towards Republicans since the last presidential election cycle.
Florida's political landscape also changed notably over four years with a move of 4.7 points towards Republicans resulting in a substantial baseline advantage of 10.3 points for them.
Scott Presler has set his sights on flipping New Jersey next: "New Jersey is the next state Scott Presler is going to try to flip."
A Twitter user commented: "Sounds about right; Every Single New Jersey County shifted to the Republicans from the previous election."
Another user expressed their view simply: "The people have spoken."
