Following the 2020 election, FOX News Channel experienced a decline in viewership among Trump supporters. However, Greg Gutfeld's late-night show has managed to maintain and even expand its audience.
Gutfeld's program, which features a rotating panel of guests discussing current events, has significantly increased its reach among younger viewers. It has also quadrupled the audience size compared to the liberal 'Daily Show,' known for its criticism of Republicans and conservative media.
Mediaite reported that "Fox News’s Greg Gutfeld Leads Cable News With Younger Viewers, Quadruples the Daily Show’s Audience." The network announced substantial ratings gains in the second quarter of 2024 amidst widespread challenges faced by media companies.
FOX News remained number one over competitors for another quarter, achieving double-digit gains across all measured categories. In contrast, CNN recorded a 33-year low in total day viewers within the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics. Despite airing the first debate between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump—achieving record ratings—the network did not see significant improvements in average demo ratings for the quarter.
Greg Gutfeld and Jesse Watters have seen notable successes; Gutfeld surpassed other late-night shows while Watters became the most-watched primetime show at 8 p.m., with June marking his highest viewership month ever. Both are co-hosts on The Five, which maintained its position as the top non-primetime cable news show for an eleventh consecutive quarter. FOX's overall ratings accounted for more than half of both total day and prime time audiences.
"Gutfeld! more than quadrupled the total viewers tuning into The Daily Show," Mediaite noted, highlighting Jon Stewart's recent part-time return as host. Additionally, Gutfeld's show doubled The Daily Show's average viewership of 146,000 in the 25-54 demographic. The program will broadcast live from Milwaukee during the Republican National Convention at 11 p.m.
"Congratulations to Mr. Gutfeld and his crew for their amazing success," read a statement reflecting on their achievements against competitors like Colbert and Kimmel.
