Republican Senator Tom Cotton appeared on CNN's "State of the Union" with Jake Tapper to discuss Vice President Kamala Harris' political stance and recent events in Israel. The conversation touched upon an attack in Israel that resulted in the deaths of at least 11 people, mostly children and young adults, and injured over 40 others.
Tapper questioned Cotton about his concerns regarding a potential escalation into a larger regional conflict. Cotton expressed worry about "Iranian-backed terrorists continuing to blow up innocent children in Israel," referencing the recent attack as an example.
Cotton criticized Vice President Harris for her statements following a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. He accused her of equivocating between Hamas and Israel, suggesting she blamed Israel for civilian casualties and food shortages in Gaza caused by Hamas diverting aid. "This is who Kamala Harris always has been, this is who she will be, a San Francisco liberal who cannot keep this country safe," Cotton stated.
The interview also addressed comments made by former President Donald Trump at a gathering of conservative Christians. Trump joked about voters not needing to vote again after he returns to office. Cotton defended Trump's remarks as humor reflecting dissatisfaction with the current administration under President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris.
Cotton continued his critique of Harris, describing her as "a dangerous liberal" and contrasting her unfavorably with Biden. "Under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, everything has gone to hell, and it will be much worse under Kamala Harris," he said.
