Joe Biden participated in an interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC News. During the discussion, Biden reflected on his tenure and achievements since taking office.
Stephanopoulos asked, “Are you the same man today that you were when you took office three-and-a-half years ago?” To which Biden responded affirmatively, highlighting his role in a Middle East peace plan, NATO expansion, and economic growth. "All the individual things that were done were ideas I had or I fulfilled," he stated.
The conversation shifted to concerns about Biden's health and mental state. When questioned about potential lapses in recent months, Biden remarked, “Can I run the 100 in 10 flat? No. But I’m still in good shape.” On being more frail, he simply replied, “No.”
Biden addressed questions about his honesty regarding his mental condition by affirming his commitment to meeting expectations. He said, “Yes, I am, because, George, the last thing I want to do is not be able to meet that.” He expressed confidence in his presidency's success: “I think... if I stop now, I go down in history as a pretty successful president."
When Stephanopoulos asked if Biden would withdraw from the race against Donald Trump if convinced of defeat, Biden humorously suggested divine intervention would be necessary for him to exit. "It depends on — on if the Lord Almighty comes down and tells me that," he commented.
Throughout the interview, Biden emphasized encouragement from others to continue his campaign efforts. "If the Lord Almighty came down and said, 'Joe, get out of the race,' I'd get out of the race," he reiterated.
