In a recent column, political analyst James Piereson shared his views on the potential outcome of the 2024 U.S. presidential election. Writing for The New Criterion, Piereson drew comparisons between Kamala Harris and former presidential candidate Michael Dukakis from 1988. He predicts that Donald Trump will win the upcoming election.
Piereson suggests that while Harris is currently gaining endorsements ahead of the Democratic National Convention in August, this support might be temporary. "The honeymoon will not last very long," he writes. According to him, Trump will portray Harris as an "out-of-touch San Francisco leftist," similar to how George Bush depicted Dukakis as a Massachusetts liberal during their respective campaigns.
In his analysis, Piereson forecasts a victory for Trump with a margin of six percentage points over Harris—forty-nine percent to forty-three percent. He anticipates Trump securing 339 electoral votes by winning all swing states and some traditionally Democratic states like Virginia, Minnesota, and New Hampshire.
Additionally, Piereson projects that Republicans will gain three or four seats in the Senate and around twenty seats in the House of Representatives. This would provide them with majorities in both chambers, enabling Trump to advance his agenda in 2025 and 2026.
