Democrats may face a setback as recent polls indicate President Trump is leading Kamala Harris in both national and Georgia-specific surveys. This comes after Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race, endorsing Harris.
A poll conducted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution shows Trump ahead of Harris by five points in Georgia, with 51% support compared to Harris's 46%. The survey included 1,000 likely voters and was conducted between July 9-18, carrying a margin of error of 3.1%.
Nationally, a Manhattan Institute poll indicates Trump has an eight-point lead over Harris in a six-way match-up. Conducted from July 7-13 among 2,100 likely voters, the poll places Trump at 44%, Harris at 36%, with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Chase Oliver, Jill Stein, and Cornel West receiving minor support. The margin of error for this poll is 2.7%.
In head-to-head scenarios within the same national poll, Trump leads Harris narrowly at 48% to her 46%, with six percent undecided. Additionally, Trump outpaces Biden (48-45) and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (47-43) in similar match-ups.
Politico reported that Biden decided to exit the race after aides presented him with unfavorable polling data suggesting no viable path to victory. Steve Ricchetti and Mike Donilon met with Biden on separate occasions to discuss these findings along with other campaign challenges.
Following Biden's withdrawal and endorsement of her candidacy, Kamala Harris announced her run for presidency on Sunday afternoon. The Federal Election Commission received paperwork amending the campaign from "Biden-Harris" to "Harris for President."
