President Trump announced on Tuesday that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In a statement, Trump expressed confidence in their ability to streamline government operations. "I am pleased to announce that the Great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency ('DOGE'). Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies – Essential to the 'Save America' Movement," he said.
Elon Musk commented on the initiative's potential impact: "This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!" He likened it to "The Manhattan Project" of modern times.
Trump outlined DOGE's mission as providing external advice and partnering with governmental bodies like the White House and Office of Management & Budget. The goal is large-scale reform with an entrepreneurial approach. "I look forward to Elon and Vivek making changes to the Federal Bureaucracy with an eye on efficiency and, at the same time, making life better for all Americans," Trump added. Their work aims to conclude by July 4, 2026.
Musk previously endorsed Trump following an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania. He tweeted his support: "I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery." Musk also compared Trump's resilience to Theodore Roosevelt's toughness.
In October, Musk appeared alongside Trump at a rally in Butler. This story is developing; updates are expected.
