Did you get a new camera or video doorbell for Christmas? Have you had a system but not explored the features? Now is a great time to look at your camera system or video doorbell to see its features.
Home security cameras are crime prevention for potential thieves and also provide aid to law enforcement when investigating crimes.
Suspects have been identified, and cases have been solved with the assistance of citizens providing video from their home security systems. Video doorbells deter criminals from package theft and make burglars think twice about if anyone is home.
The Brookhaven Police Department has a security camera registry, Operation Plugged In. It is a police/community video partnership that relies on voluntary participation from homeowners, neighborhoods, and business owners with private video surveillance systems.
Don’t worry, being a part of this partnership does not give the police access to your camera system. Participants are only contacted if a crime occurs in the area, and the camera may have captured evidence to assist the investigation.
