The Dunwoody Police Department is NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS for the Dunwoody Citizens' Police Academy.
This is your opportunity to participate in an up-close study of Dunwoody’s police operations.
The Dunwoody Police Department welcomes residents of Dunwoody ages 21 and above, along with Dunwoody business owners, to attend this free program designed to give participants the opportunity to learn about various functions of police work through classroom lectures, training scenarios and off-site tours of partner locations, such as ChatComm 911.
The academy will begin on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. Classes will be held every Tuesday night from 6:00pm to approximately 9:00pm. The last class will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 and graduation will be held on Monday, November 14th.
The Dunwoody Citizens' Police Academy is part of the community policing efforts of the Dunwoody Police Department. Each week, the class focuses on a specific division of the Police Department, giving students an overview of the Department's duties and responsibilities. Some of the units covered are:
• Community Outreach
• North Metro SWAT
• Gangs
• Crime Scene Unit
• ChatComm 9-1-1 Center
• DeKalb County Jail
• Use of Force
• Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (C.R.A.S.E)
• Criminal Investigations
• Uniform Patrol
• Narcotics
• Traffic Stops and DUI enforcement
• T.I. Firearms Simulator
