Dunwoody Parks & Recreation and the Dunwoody-Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. will kick off the “Souper Bowl of Caring” on December 1. This six-week food drive is part of the community’s celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in January.
“This will be our third annual food drive, and we hope to engage the whole community to help address the issue of food insecurity,” said Natasha Morris, Community Service Chair for the Dunwoody-Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. “The holidays are an important time to think of others, and we want to make it easy to give.”
Nonperishable food collected during the drive will be donated to Malachi’s Storehouse and the Community Assistance Center. Collection bins for food donations will be set up at the entrance to the Brook Run Park playground during the Holiday Lights opening night on Dec. 1. After that, bins will be available until Jan. 16 in these locations:
- Spruill Center for the Arts lobby near Stage Door Theatre, 5339 Chamblee Dunwoody Road
- Breadwinner Dunwoody, 5482 Chamblee Dunwoody Road in the Shops of Dunwoody
- SOHO Office: Printing, Shipping & Business Services Store, 2090 Dunwoody Club Drive #106 in the Orchard Park Shopping Center
- Malachi’s Storehouse, 4755 N. Peachtree Road
- Dunwoody CAC, 5 Dunwoody Park South, Building 5, Suite 113
New this year, Malachi’s Storehouse has set up an Amazon Wishlist to make donating easier. Donation bin hours are listed online: www.dunwoodyga.gov/mlkday. This website will also include information about service projects for Dunwoody’s MLK, Jr. Day of Service on Jan. 16, 2023. More details will be released in December.
