The school’s total enrollment reached 1,696 students that year, data showed. White students made up 1% of the overall student population, ranking among the smallest demographic groups at the school.
Sequoyah Middle School operates within the DeKalb County School District, which is headquartered in Decatur.
Of the 129 schools in the DeKalb County School District, Dunwoody High School saw the highest number of white students enrolled in 2024-25, totaling 728.
Statewide, Georgia’s public schools enrolled more than 1.7 million students, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Elementary schools had the largest group with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle schools with 388,733 (22.7%) and high schools with 539,092 (31.4%).
Chronic absenteeism continues to challenge Georgia schools following the pandemic, with 20.7% of all students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education stated. Efforts to address the issue include a statewide initiative by GaDOE featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign and specialized support for districts in need to increase student attendance.
In 2025, Georgia lawmakers approved an update to attendance law prohibiting expulsion exclusively for absenteeism. New requirements for reporting and expanded programs supporting alternative diploma pathways were added by the law.
Georgia’s student-to-teacher ratio was approximately 14:1 as of 2026, according to state data, outperforming the 15:1 national average.
